Since LIBOR's cessation in 2023, SOFR underpins an estimated $200+ trillion of derivatives, loans, and securities.
The transition was a profound philosophical shift. LIBOR was an unsecured, forward-looking, survey-based rate embedding bank credit risk; SOFR is a secured, backward-looking, transaction-based rate embedding none.
